'Under the Vestibule', my passion project: Director

The director of 'Under the Vestibule' says the series was his passion project and honour.

The director of 'Under the Vestibule' says the series was his passion project and honor.

In a media interview, Sirous Moqaddam revealed his deep-seated affection for 'Under the Vestibule',  describing it as the only series that fully aligns with his dreams and passion as a filmmaker.

Moqaddam highlighted several factors contributing to the uniqueness of 'Under the Vestibule'.

He emphasized the exceptional quality of the script, considering it the most complete he had ever received.

He noted that the characters in the screenplay felt real and relatable, their dialogues resonated, and certain scenes stirred intense emotions in him.

The director also noted that central to the series' appeal is the character of Ata Khan Amou, brilliantly portrayed by Amir Jafari.

Moqaddam praised this character as a return to true masculinity in Iranian storytelling, breaking away from some male characters often seen in contemporary films.

He explained that Ata Khan Amou embodies a rebellious spirit, a masculine outlook, and powerful behaviour captivating audiences.

Moqaddam also credited the favorable production conditions with ample resources and no rush to complete the series.

He believed that having room for creativity made the series very personal for him, which is why he's so proud of it.

He described the series as "bitter medicine" - a necessary look at harsh realities that bring healing.

In a landscape often dominated by glossy, feel-good narratives,  'Under the Vestibule' is a raw, unfiltered glimpse into social issues - a creation its creator fiercely defends as his "honor."

The series follows Ata and his fiancé who make plans to rob her father’s jewelry store.

Ata goes through with it, but then he gets caught. His fiancée abandons him and marries another man. Now, Ata is stuck in prison, facing more time for a diamond theft he didn't commit.
